Goodwood Festival of Speed Photos

2001 & 2002

Below are a collection of photos I've taken over the last couple of year whilst attending the fantastic Goodwood Festival of Speed. Its a great event where you can always see a couple of 917's and get close to the cars & the drivers.

As ever, click the thumb-nail to see a larger image open in a new window.

917/10-016 5.6 Litre 1972

One of the later 917/10 cars with the bigger 5.6 Litre engine. The car was owned by Vasek Polak until mid-2000 when it was sold to current owner & driver Ottokar Von Jacobs. He now regularly races this car in the European Sports Prototype series.

917-009 4.5 Litre 1969

This is the Porsche museum car that they have 'dressed' like the Le Mans winning number 23 car. The car is certainly a confusing one, as most literature states it as being chassis 001. However, I discussed this car in detail with Klaus Bischof ( Technical Director Porsche Museum ) who confirmed this was indeed 009 and they don't actually know where chassis 001 is !!!

Many thanks to Klaus for the information.

917-028 PA 4.5 Litre 1969

This was Porsches first attempt at Can Am, literally just taking a stock 917 & cutting the roof off to make this car ! The car was known as the PA after Porsche Audi because the VW importer in USA wanted some marketing to his cars & he brokered this deal.

917/10-001 5.0 Litre 1971

Willi Kauhsen stands proudly beside his 917/10. This car is the one Porsche used for testing before entering the Can Am series, and Willi did most of the testing himself in this car !!

On a personal note, I must say what a great man Willi is, more than happy to talk to me and his wife was very amused by the photo of Willi from the '70s that I got him to sign. My thanks to a true hero

917/10-001 5.0 Litre 1971

Proof that Le Mans cars must have a passenger seat as 2 people get a ride down to the start line in Willi Kauhsens 917/10

917K (Chassis 013)

Finburgh takes his car out onto the track (well, the Earl of March's drive !!)

917K (Chassis 013)

Festival of speed regular, Mark Finburgh was present again with his wonderful Gulf coloured 917K

(Willi Kauhsens wife is sitting in the background as they were loading their car to take home - you can just see the front wheel of their car along with the rear wing of the 936/77 car Ickx drove up the hill !)

917K (Chassis 013)

Here is the man himself (Finburgh) warming the engine before he takes the car out on the track.

However, just look at the angle he's sitting at.... I can hardly use the word sitting as its really lying down !!!
